Tortuguero-The Real Jungle Cruise
Tortuguero is a little town between a crocodile infested river and the Atlantic Ocean filled with sharks, barracuda, rays and eels. We were warned very firmly not to swim in either.
Twice during the day, we took a boat on the river with jungle surrounding us on either side. It was only the occasional bird that any of us could see on our own. However our captain, old eagle eyes, would see a slight movement in the foliage and point out animals like monkeys, sloths, Jesus Christ Lizards and caymans.
Later that night, we were on the terrace looking out at the river, and all of a sudden something cracked and fell into the water. Jason almost took a swim when the wooden rail tumbled. Somehow he caught himself before falling, but I still don't know how he managed to stay on the terrace. Upon close examination we saw the wood was bound to break. It was Swiss cheese and riddled with termites.
